MINDY SETTLED INTO HER room while I talked her ear off, filling her in on everything that happened in the last few days. After she changed, we met Peter in the lobby, still in the same spot where we had left him, and headed down toward Gratefull Cup. Mindy’s face was like a kid on Christmas morning as she took in the town.

“I want to live here,” she said on a sigh.

“You could,” Peter said. “There are houses for sale.”

I shook my head. “No, she couldn’t. She can’t leave me.”

“Then you both should move,” he said with a smile. I knew he was kidding, but it didn’t stop the flutter in my stomach at the thought of moving here and being with him.

“Ooh, ice cream. We’ll have to get some later,” Mindy said with a wink in my direction.

Peter wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his side. “Kate and I were going to go there on our date.” He smiled down at me and I melted into his side. He was irresistible.

“Don’t worry about me, I’ll have plenty to do,” Mindy said, crossing the street and heading for the coffee shop.

“She’ll have no problem fitting in here,” I said dryly.

“You wouldn’t either,” Peter said, placing a kiss on the side of my head.

The smell of coffee hit me the minute Peter opened the door. He held it open for me, and I floated in nose first. I loved coffee shops. Everything about them helped me to relax. Mindy and I left our orders with Peter and found seats by the big window that overlooked Main Street.

“I really love it here,” she whispered.

“You haven’t been here for more than an hour.”

She sat back and smiled. “I know. It’s a feeling, though. Like when you put on a broken-in pair of jeans and they fit just right. They feel good, and you like how you feel in them. The minute I stepped foot here, that’s the feeling I got.”

“Really?”

She nodded.

Peter set down our coffee and donuts on the table in front of us and took the empty seat beside me. He put his arm over the back of my chair as he sipped his coffee.

“What are you ladies talking about?” he asked.

“Mindy was just telling me how in love she is with your town,” I said.

He smiled at her. “It really is a great place.”

“I can see that,” she said with a seductive smile. I knew she wasn’t just talking about the town anymore. Something inside me stirred, and I had the urge to crawl into Peter’s lap and claim him as mine. The door chimed, and loud voices carried over to us.

“Hey, there you are,” one of them said. I turned my head and saw Frank making his way over to our table. He stopped beside it with a grin on his face. “We were looking for you.”

“Well, you found me,” Peter said looking up at him. Sid stood behind Frank.

Frank’s eyes drifted over the table and stopped on Mindy.
